Through the end of this month (that's this week!), ski resorts in 32 states are offering free or modestly priced programs to encourage children and adults to learn alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Take them up on it and have some fun in the snow! Most alpine (downhill) ski and snowboard packages include a lift ticket, equipment rental, and a lesson with a professional instructor. I'm planning to visit a nature preserve this Friday night with some friends for moonlight snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or a hike, depending on trail conditions.
