I wasn’t completely unhappy with myself. In fact, I was fairly content with who I was and how my life had evolved. I had an amazing husband, two beautiful, healthy kids and a career that I loved. I had an amazingly rich life with wonderful friends and family who supported me and loved me unconditionally. My transformation isn’t about reaching an all-time low, or being at a point where, “enough is enough.” I didn’t have a large amount of weight to lose either. I simply knew there was a better, healthier, more improved version of myself waiting to be revealed.
I didn’t know exactly what I was going to do to change, I just knew it was going to happen, and I knew it was going to take a lot of action on my part. I had made my mind up! This new idea was to lose body fat! For once, I was not going to obsess or fixate on the number on the scale, yet I was going focus on the percentage of body fat I was going to lose. Once I determined my mission, there was no looking back.
The first really big change that I made in my life was eating MORE food! What a concept, right?!!? As women, we tend to believe that restricting calories is the way to go. Boy, was I wrong! I went from NOT eating ALL day long (to lose weight), to eating a few meals a day, which eventually turned in to eating 5 times a day!!
Shortly after starting my journey on my own, I hired a personal trainer, as well as continuing my workouts on my own at California Family Fitness. I was definitely on the right track with the work I was doing on my own, and that was due in large part to the amenities at Cal Fit. I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for the gym being located within a ½ mile from my house. The close proximity and the early operating hours, made it possible for me to get my workouts in early in the morning (4:30am to be exact). My work schedule is often very different from one day to the next, so to have the option of working out early in the morning, or late in the evening, was a huge factor in my positive results. Another key to my success was the childcare facility at Cal Fit being available for my children. I know of several gyms where members have to make appointments ahead of time to bring their children to childcare, or even pay extra each time they workout. At Cal Fit, I was/am able to drop my kids off at the drop of a hat, and I know they are in great hands with the staff there. My kids have grown up at Cal Fit, and have known most of the staff members their entire life. My kids love going there, and they see me setting a positive example by being healthy and going to the gym regularly.
Today, I am 20 pounds lighter and carry around 14% less body fat than I did a year ago. I have been Eating Clean and lifting weights for over one year now, and there is no looking back. My mission now is to inspire others to be the best they can be, and to live a healthy lifestyle! My life was amazing before, but it just keeps getting better!! With the new year here, it is a perfect time to make the necessary changes to improve YOUR life! You too CAN DO IT!!!
