COVID-19 INFORMATION

UPDATE 3/17/20 2:15 PM:

At California Family Fitness, we always prioritize wellness, and especially during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak. Based a recent directive from California Governor Gavin Newsom, all of our California Family Fitness locations will be temporarily closing today, March 17th, at 2 PM.

We will continue to monitor the Coronavirus and evaluate when it will be safe to reopen. We will keep you updated with information, including the reopening dates for our clubs.

While we know these actions are unprecedented, safety is our highest priority. We appreciate your patience as we continue to work through the details of club closures. All memberships will be in a frozen status until further notice.

Our entire organization is committed to your health and well-being. We will be sharing regular communication with you via our COVID-19 information page. Knowing that activity is an important part of strengthening your immune system and reducing stress, we are happy to offer a wide variety of free video workouts that you can follow from the comfort of your home.

Our thoughts are with our members who are on the front lines providing healthcare and other vital services, and those who are at risk. We are all in this together, let’s show our community that the worst can bring out the best in all of us!

UPDATE 3/16/20 8:50 PM:

Thank you for all that you are already doing to contribute to the health and wellness of the California Family Fitness community, as well as the greater communities that we live, work, and play in.  Our entire organization is committed to your health and well-being.  As such, we are staying up-to-date on federal, state, and local public health mandates.

In order to better practice social responsibility and the recommendations for social distancing, we are postponing all group fitness classes.  This will go into effect as of close of business on March 16th, and continue until the end of the month.

As mentioned previously, we are happy to offer a wide variety of video workout that you can follow from the comfort of your home.

Our entire organization is committed to your health and well-being. Along with sharing regular communication and club updates with you via email and our COVID-19 information page, we are aware of the concerns that you are expressing to us by email and social media.

Many of you are practicing social distancing and limiting your contact by staying at home, and we want to encourage and support you in this. Knowing that activity is an important part of strengthening your immune system and reducing stress, California Family Fitness is happy to offer a wide variety of video workouts that you can follow from the comfort of your home.

Access to these at-home workouts is FREE to our members. There are many formats for all fitness levels. Some require hand-held equipment, but stay tuned for ideas for how to turn household objects into fitness gear!

We understand that limiting the size of group fitness classes is just one of many things you are adapting to as our community faces this unprecedented challenge. We hope that providing a way for you to maintain your fitness at home will be helpful during this time of uncertainty.

UPDATE 3/14/2020:

We love having you in our group fitness classes!  We are working to keep all of our studios open and safe for all who wish to participate.

As we continue to monitor the situation and seek advice from public health officials, we are taking additional steps to ensure social distancing is possible within class settings.  As of Monday, March 16th, we will be capping all group fitness classes at 50% capacity.

Please be sure to reserve your spot in class ahead of time using the Cal Fit app, then check in at the group fitness kiosk at least 10 minutes before class begins.

We can't thank you enough for your understanding and willingness to do your part to contribute to the safety of our community.  As the COVID-19 situation is quickly evolving, we encourage you to check back here frequently for updates.

UPDATE 3/13/2020:

While concerns about COVID-19 (Coronavirus) continue, we want to communicate regularly on what our company is doing to ensure all our facilities are safe for our members to use.  At this difficult time, we can each play a vital role in helping to reduce the impact and look after ourselves and each other.

What we are doing. California Family Fitness has a long-standing practice of disinfecting all club areas with a medical-grade, EPA registered solution throughout the day. In addition, we are taking guidance from these published Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guidelines to increase cleaning frequency hourly, with special attention to highly used items. We will also continue to stock disposable wipes, alcohol-based hand sanitizers, paper towels, and disinfecting spray for use by employees and customers throughout our clubs.

To further protect our members, guests, and employees, Cal Fit has made the decision to modify hours of operation for the remainder of March.  During modified hours of closure, the Cal Fit team will be hard at work disinfecting all touchable surfaces.  The following areas will be our primary focus:

  • Front desk and lobby area
  • Free weight floor
  • Cardio areas and equipment
  • Courts
  • Childcare and Kidz Klub
  • Body Fit area
  • Rock wall
  • Locker rooms and restrooms
  • Group fitness rooms
  • Membership and Fitness offices

This disinfecting schedule will follow guidelines recommended by the CDC.  Please click here for modified club hours, by location. At times your preferred club is closed we welcome you to visit another open club, regardless of your membership.

What you can do.  We encourage all members to review the following best practices inside and outside the club to keep yourself and others healthy.

  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.  (A helpful demonstration can be found here.)
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze into a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Utilize cleaning stations or disinfectant wipes available in workout areas to wipe down machines and equipment before and after use. Please note that paper towels and disinfectant spray are available along with disinfectant wipes.
  • Actively strengthen your body’s immune system by eating antioxidant-rich fruits and veggies and probiotic-rich fermented foods. A balanced diet, plenty of water, exercise, and a good sleep schedule are your best defenses.
  • Physical activity and exercise can help boost immune function, reduce stress, and metabolic health.

What all of us can do.  Another important element of maintaining a safe and healthy club environment in the current circumstances is managing person-to-person contact to limit the potential exposure to and spread of the virus. The CDC recommends avoiding physical contact and maintaining a distance of at least six feet from other people. This "social distancing" is difficult to maintain and regulate within the club environment. At this time, we are continuing our club programs and activities as scheduled--except as otherwise announced--but we encourage our employees, members, and guests to consider the following precautions within Cal Fit clubs:

  • Avoid personal contact such as handshakes and hugs in personal greetings.
  • Where possible, try to maintain some personal space from others when working out on equipment, participating in classes or other activities, and socializing in the club.
  • Wipe down equipment before and after use with wipes or paper towels and disinfectant spray.
  • Use towels on fitness and yoga mats, wipe down mats after use.

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, please refer to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the latest updates.  Information specific to California Family Fitness will be emailed and posted below.  Please make sure to click here to update your email preferences so you will not miss out on important email updates.

We thank you for your understanding, adhering to these important guidelines, and working with us to keep our communities healthy and safe.
